The objective of the MECA SAPIENS project is to design a conscious machine. This site publishes the evolving design.This is the status of the project as of March 30, 2010:
The draft of the first section, An Ancient Quest, was completed in June 2009. This section provides the context and requirements of the project.
The second section, Defining the conditions, developped the Specifications of machine consciousness. This was completed in March 2010. The result is the first clear and realistic specification of a conscious machine ever devised. This includes a general definition of consciousness and of intelligence, as well as a set of existential and behavioral specifications necessary to implement it. This is, I believe, a world first.
The draft of the third section (Behavioral Layers) will begin in Mayl 2010. The objective of this section is to design the components that will be necessary to implement a system that is perceived as conscious. A first version of this section should be completed by early 2011.
Hopefully, a first version of section four (Lucid transformation), will be completed by the end of 2011. This last section will define the final design element to produce a conscious machine.
At that point, a draft of the main part of the blueprint will be completed, providing a clear, programmable specification and high level design to implement a conscious machine.
The last section (Unbounded intellect) providing mathematical structures for open ended learning, will be developed subsequently.
