The dream of building a conscious machine is ancient. It lies at the heart of the human destiny. It represents a unique and exceptional avenue in the human quest for knowledge.
As soon as computers became available researchers defined the field of Artificial Intelligence and endeavored to build the first intelligent machines. They expected to succeed within a few years. The goal turned out to be harder than anticipated and progress ground to a halt.
However, the desire to fashion a mechanical intelligence was never entirely forgotten. Even when common wisdom held that machine intelligence was indefinable and unachievable, it continued to exert a powerful attraction.
The time has come to flesh out these early intuitions and transform them into a workable blueprint. This is the objective of the MECA SAPIENS project:
to produce a machine achievable definition of consciousness and develop the blueprint to implement it.
